Karayuna Learning Centre in conjunction with Wags the Dog have joined forces to assist students in developing sound learning strategies for life.
W.A.G.S. is a unique and innovative way to connect kids with their success.
The WAGS mission is to encourage people to accomplish personal goals, master life skills and understand how their individual contribution is important in the development of our society.
W.A.G.S engages kids, who don't really know what they want or how they would get it anyway, with the tools and motivation to chase their dreams – whatever those dreams are.
Like humans, each dog has a different set of skills and preferences; it's the handler's task to figure out how to best motivate and put talents to use. W.A.G.S consists of 1 youth worker and a team of incredibly special and uniquely trained dogs. We travel to schools and service organisations in the New England district, and connect with kids who are having a hard time, to give them something to smile about. Kids learn how to train the dogs and along the way, they learn about life, love and what being a person of real substance is about. The dogs have so much love, and so many life lessons, to offer. You can meet the team and read all about what we do by going to www.wagsthedog.org - if you go to our blog page, you can get a real feel for what the dogs can do!
Sadly, we live in a world where some kids are getting left behind. Kids who deal with mental health issues, kids who deal with alcoholic or drug addicted carers, kids who have no parents to care for them or kids who, for whatever reason, are just plain doing it tough. It's the W.A.G.S mission to catch those kids and give them a hand up.
